Dear Power Thinkers,

I am pleased to announce that this month I will attend my first Science of Mind (SOM) class.  Yes, you read it correctly I did say my first SOM class.  This may sound a little strange to some of you because you might be thinking—What? That can’t be true, because I took a SOM class with her more than two decades ago.  Others of you might be thinking-Well, it cannot be true because for Rev. Cheryl to be a minister she had to have taken other classes like SOM-100, 200, 300, and a 400 series ministerial class that lasted three years.  Others are probably sure that I did not mean what I wrote, saying to themselves “that it cannot be correct because I took SOM classes that she actually taught.”

I truly mean it when I say that on September 7, 2006, I will experience my first SOM class. I can make that statement, because I am not the same person that I was when I first took SOM 100 or 200.  In fact, I am not the same individual I was when I taught SOM-100 just three short months ago. Since that time, I have grown in my awareness and understanding.  The words I read now, although I have read them several times before, mean something completely different.  This is a wonderful experience that not only makes all things new, I can also feel a greater power in my daily meditation and treatment work.  Although the One Life never changes, I can change the way I think about things and about myself and a whole new world opens up.  It is an exciting time for me and I invite all of you to allow your Real self to experience this new world too.

The Universal Center for Positive Living offers two wonderful ways to ignite the power inside you that will make all things new.  First, you can join us on Sunday mornings as we celebrate the delightful ever-evolving beings that we are.  The second way is to participate in classes on Thursday evenings, which begin September 7th, where we discuss the way Life works and new ideas to improve our life experience.  Life is wonderful and so are you!

Ernest-ly Speaking

(excerpts from the Science of Mind textbook by Dr. Ernest Holmes)

Never limit your view of life by any past experience.  The possibility of life is inherent within the capacity to imagine what life is, backed by the power to produce this imagery, or Divine Imagination.  It is not a question of failing or succeeding.  It is simply a question of sticking to an idea until it becomes a tangible reality.  The illusion is in the way we look at things.  We have looked at poverty, degradation and misery until they have assumed gigantic proportions. Now we must look at harmony, happiness, plenty, prosperity, peace and right action, until they appear.”

Treatment for September 2006

“The mind must conceive before the Creative Energy can produce; we must supply the avenue through which It can work.”  Ernest Holmes, The Science of Mind

The Way Life Works

There is only One Life. This is the Life of God. This Life is Love and Wisdom, forever giving of Itself to Itself through me.  The Way Life Works is simple:  As a reflection of the Divine, I am also a creator with It through my thoughts and beliefs.  I provide a mold in Mind to which Spirit responds.  I set the Law in motion through my thought and my word. What is revealed is a life that corresponds to my beliefs.  My consciousness of power, love, health, peace, joy, creativity and prosperity appears as my experience. As my consciousness expands, the life I desire unfolds perfectly.  I experience health, happiness, prosperity and peace.  In recognition of this truth, I release my word to the Law, knowing that it is so.  And so it is

How Does Life Work?

Learn How By Attending Our Science of Mind Classes

Classes Begin Thursday September 7th

The UCPL will answer this and other life’s questions during its Science of Mind classes which take place every Thursday, starting September 7th, 6:30 pm at Baker Hall (1719 W. 93rd St., Chicago).  This year the UCPL offers the second year curriculum (SOM-200 series) that will include four separate eight-week classes running from September 2006 through May 2007.

The first eight-week session will be SOM 204—Spiritual Laws. This is a practical class which empowers the student to develop their thinking skills. The classic text, Working With the Law, by Raymond Holliwell, provides lucid explanations of exactly how the spiritual laws operate in our lives. These laws are utterly reliable; and this class shows the student how to use this knowledge to benefit every area of living.

Each class runs from 6:30—9:00 pm and cost $15 per class.  You are always welcome to join at any time during the class year by taking one class, one eight-week session, or attend all four sessions.  However, to receive credit for the classes, as recognized by Religious Science International, you must attend a minimum number of classes.  SEE YOU THURSDAY!

A Four Letter Word

By: Leonard Cundari

Now before you get upset and report me to the Pastor, the four-letter word I am talking about is work. Although a friend of mine considers the word work truly a “four-letter” word, and if I even mention the word work, my friend would say to me; please do not use that kind of language in her presence. However, the work that I am talking about here is the work that is done in mind, the only work we can ever really do. The work that I am talking about is the conscious work of changing your mind from one level of consciousness, such as sickness or lack, to a higher idea such as health or abundance.

You may say “but that is not work at all, all you have to do is think something different and the form or experience will change.” In principle that is true and the very founder of the Science of Mind said “Change Your Thinking, Change Your Life.” However, I have found that some thoughts or ideas we have seem so strong that it feels like we will never be able to change them. This is especially true of the ideas that are the result of something we actually experienced, and until we provide a different thought that idea will continue to perpetuate itself and act as though it had a life of its own. But all thoughts must have a thinker (you) to support an idea and keep it alive in your experience. The good news is YOU have the power to change what you are thinking. This sounds simple enough, and it is, but it may require consistent conscious work.

It may take conscious work during those times when you find yourself in the midst of lack with no money, bills coming in, and creditors calling, to think abundance; or to think “I am perfect health” when you do not feel healthy or a doctor provides some dire prognosis.  But I promise you that if you stay committed to doing your conscious work things will change. Our work is to daily (could be every hour, minute, or second) to remember the Truth of who we are...God individualized, and to think about what that would feel like in our daily lives. Could God be sick, poor, unloved? Of course not, but we are free to choose any thought we wish and the Law will provide the form or experience.

As we celebrate “Labor Day” let us make it the month to either start or re-establish our daily work. Let us begin each day with thoughts about the Truth of who we truly are...nothing less than the Divine in expression.  Let us give that idea to the Law and watch in awe as our wonderful life unfolds. And So It Is.
